Post subject: Express your desire for co-op here

I personally got this game for the ability to play this game with my friends, as well as the amazing sounding single player experience. I would like to take this opprotunity to request that the CO-OP is included in the game, due to the fact that there are very few, if any, CO-OP games like this one on the market.

This is actually a good idea. The latest update said that coop might be on the table if priorities allowed and if there was sufficient interest in it. Let's use this thread for people to express their support for adding in coop mode.

One post per person please, and just to keep it clean please refrain from discussion.

I am a big fan of the co-op aspect.  It is why I backed at a significant level:  I wanted the extra copies of the game to play with friends and even back to back on my home LAN.

There is an easy way to determine co-op  desire:  count the number of backers that opted for a pledge level with multiple copies!  Easy peasy.

Edit:  Go-Captain has really made it definitive (see below):  only 6% of the backers pledged at a level providing multiple copies.  That is pure backer counts, the total pledge percentage is going to be higher but not past 10% or so.  So the law of large numbers has spoken--people are looking for a single player game.

It would be a great thing if co-op could be added as an add-on feature down the road.

Huge fan of co-op here. Our original idea was to have 6 of us use specialised ships to battle the biggest and best fleets in the galaxy.

As much as I would love to have co-op, I understand that, hopefully, when it is added, it'll be after boarding combat system has been put into the game

Even though it is extremely unlikely I will ever find anyone to play this game in co-op, if there are enough people for it I cannot imagine being against the feature. Although, I do want to see the primary bits of the game in place first, which is already the plan.

I love it when a plan comes together.

I want co-op, and Perihelion based their backer's rewards mostly on co-op for their kickstarter campagian along with their fellow-up paypal until 2015ish.

The Kickstarter rewards for Backers about or above $100 tier; a + 1 Extra digital download, which only goes up from there for game copies, along with possible additonal copies bought by the digital addons from Backerkit store as well. For myself I have about 4 copies of the game and needless extra copies now since Co-op isn't a direct thing anymore, if the game somehow doesn't become a mire of no-man sky or gone entirely. It's probably going to be that stragtery of just re-sale and I don't want the Mandate to be merely a money profit.

My friends bought in on the kickstarter with the direct quote, "Finally, a game with bloody coop." So, yeah, that was a big selling point for us; gallivanting around together in ships and being able to interact.

One thing I'd have you guys check is how many are the double game edition for kickstarter, because I know I'd really want anything to make a game better, and to do so you just need to exacute it.  I'm thinking that it would be the idea, and had the idea that the buddy is either able to be a loyal first that got imprisoned with you, or someone that's was meant to keep a eye on you. So as you gain another ship your friend would take command of the other ship, and follow your lead sort speak.

Co-op would be a fun addition to the game, and would add in a whole new aspect to the battles, from larger battles to grander strategies to missions specific to more than one player. The possibilities are legion, and even if it's not implemented in the initial release, I would still like it to be a feature down the line.

Another vote for Co-op All the WAY!!!!!

It's also true that the extra copies you can(supposedly for your friends initially) get from some of the backing rewards, feels like it's a waste because of that.

Well the game would likely be still fun but I think most people buy extra copies to drag friends to play with them after all.

Plus, I am not so much of a multiplayer person, but I like cooperation. I don't need like tons of people to play with like some 25-man raid or something kinda coop, but just be able to share the experience with at least just another person.

Just my thoughts and desire....

I backed for a single game copy and don't have much interest in coop.  I'd prefer a well polished and deep single player game that truly would be considered a space opera game.  If down the road coop can be added as a later feature, fine, but as stated I only care about the single player experience.

Personally, the fact that coop was going to be an important part of the game was a big reason for me to back the game. While I understand that the single player campaign should be the priority, I would be sorely disappointed if coop was not implemented later on.

For me the Co-op was a nice added extra. I was always more interested in controlling my fleet and its personnel, flying accross the galaxy smiting the foes of the Empress. However I won't lie and say I would not disappointed if this feature was dropped completely.

I do agree for early alpha this should be put on a much lower priority, there are other things that needed to be addressed. But long term this feature does need to included. If not during Beta then, maybe as a free add-on after launch.  I'm not a developer so I would not know if that’s completely impractical

I've only opted in for a single copy, but I did so under the impression that co-op was going to happen. I often play co-op with my friends, and The Mandate was to be another title I would recommend to our group. From the way gameplay was described in the early pitch, it would have been ideal for high adventure among the sea of stars together with one's friends, as the "hot join" feature would have enabled everyone to play their own campaign when the others aren't around, but hop into another player's campaign to lend them a hand.

To improve the argument for co-op further, I want to point out just how benefitial it can be for the continued health of the game as a whole. Even with an open-ended campaign, the possibility to play with other human beings significantly extends a product's appeal and thus longevity.

Look at Shadowrun Chronicles, for example -- another Kickstarter project that has had an extremely bumpy start as well, from development delays to server issues at launch. Yet to this day its co-operative turn-based tactical combat maintains a stable population.

Or, for an AAA title, let's take a look at StarCraft II. This RTS does not have an open-ended campaign, meaning that the only thing left after players have finished the story missions is the multiplayer mode. And in a video recently released by Blizzard Entertainment, it was announced that co-op was as popular as all the other multiplayer modes combined, and was immensely successful in helping to extend the interest of the 80% of players who only stick around for the single-player campaign. By now, the studio has adapted its approach accordingly and begun to finance the development of additional co-op missions by selling co-op commanders as paid DLC.

What this means for The Mandate is that a properly added co-op mode may significantly increase its appeal by word of mouth, as friends are going to want to play with friends, thus increasing the title's reach and longevity, which in turn means more sales, leading to more money to allow continued development.

Of course I'm coming at this from a biased angle, but I hope that in addition of providing a simple "+1" to this thread, I may have also succeeded in making a more general case as to why co-op could be an important asset to a title such as this.

Go-Captain wrote:Even though it is extremely unlikely I will ever find anyone to play this game in co-op, if there are enough people for it I cannot imagine being against the feature.

Provided this game sees a successful release AND co-op is added either right away or at a later point, you might be able to find suitable players on these forums! The fans are bound to hang around here, and I could imagine a sticky thread where people voice their interest in building connections.

And that would be just the most primitive possibility. Perhaps The Mandate could even include a sort of in-game browser for "open games" where captains currently online can post requests for help as they prepare for an action, allowing others to sign up with their ship, joining a growing flotilla for half an hour of peer-to-peer space naval combat.

First off, thank you for the update and the road map.  They are both appreciated.  I would, however, like many, express my desire for a Co-op addition.  Co-op plus the game's premise is one of the major things that sold me on the game in the first place.  Being able to captain a starship along side of my friends was vastly exciting.  I would be very sad to see this feature be abanddoned.  I understand that sometimes features get cut and that multiplayer is difficult but I would love to see this make it back into the game if there is any way possible.  Thank you again.

While I am the only one of my friends who has heard of the game, I would very much like to reccomend them the mandate so we can play it together. As it stands I cannot do that as the game isn't released and coop is uncertain. I want to help make it a certainty with this post!

Those people should be represented here on the forums, as some of them will have not likely have visited the forums.

The Mandate was the most money I've paid for a Kickstarter project.

I paid so much money because it looked like a great game to sit down with my friends and play coop with them. I "gave" them the game as a Christmas present. Now to learn that coop has been removed from the design? It's a betrayal. I wouldn't have given more than the minimum, had I known.

I defintely want to be able to play Coop and want it to be more in-depth than an after thought. So you have my vote. I guess my only question would be how would Coop be any different than playing solo? This is partially why I really want a real time combat system.

i backed it at a low tier but was very excited about the possibility of playing alongside (even if only in combat) a friend or more. He likes the concept but is waiting to see how this pans out before commiting money. even if co-op is limited to it being a main player with the other player essentially taking the role of a sub-captain, that would be awesome.

At the end of the game Kings and pawns go into the same case, the differences are what they accomplish and how long it takes them to get there.

Co-op can suck a dozen dicks and light itself on fire. I have zero interest in it and think the devs should balance that game soley around singleplayer and not devote an ioata of time on online malarky. Get enought forced online stuff with the Sims...

If nothing else, a save share system that temporarily drops ships from a friendlist into the game and updates them accordingly would be nice. Continuity and Level issues can be fixed with a generic crew and auto-balancing. Otherwise, the system would have to be rebalanced for 100% real-time gameplay - and with everything going on in a battle, that seems... difficult. And don't get me started on story branching and personality traits. That's not to say that I don't want co-op, I do want co-op, but I don't see co-op campaigns with story elements handled very well very often.

For me co-op was a huge part of the games draw. I've played open ended games, I've played space games, I've played games that individually had several aspects of this game in them, but I've never been able to play those types of games with my friends. Cooperative play has become something that I enjoy more and more. I find games have some much more lasting meaning when you can recall the antics of yourself and friends long after the game has ended.

I was sold on the co-op aspect, without it I probably wouldn't have backed it. I probably won't look for a refund, but I certainly wouldn't back anything from Perihelion again if it were removed for no reason.

I just want what was promised when I first backed it:

"It's true that The Mandate is cooperative with up to six players, and there will certainly be mechanics and aspects of the game that complement cooperative gameplay, rewarding those who choose to play this way (tactical specifications, variations on the trinity system, etc), but The Mandate is designed so that each captain decides his very own fate, and enjoys his very own story path. You needn't play with friends, or seldom play with them, it's entirely up to you. There's one thing we need to make very clear, and that is that The Mandate is being created with enough depth and drive to immerse players creative and strategic minds. Many cooperative games distract players from this side, but that's not what we're trying to do. You are your own captain, join your friends, or journey alone - mix, match, whatever you like. It's your sandbox."

Co-op was the reason I backed the Mandate Kickstarter - so please classify this as a strong interest.

Reposting from Kickstarter in response: to  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1964463742/the-mandate/posts/1673868

Regarding Co-op - It appears you just another Kickstarter that put out co-op as way of encouraging backers only for to pretend this was never part of the original selling point of the project because you feel it is two technically challenging or there is not enough demand to make it worth you while. Can I remind you of the following:

"It's true that The Mandate is cooperative with up to six players, and there will certainly be mechanics and aspects of the game that complement cooperative gameplay, rewarding those who choose to play this way (tactical specifications, variations on the trinity system, etc), but The Mandate is designed so that each captain decides his very own fate, and enjoys his very own story path. It's your sandbox."

You have a strange definition of truth - there is no maybe we will do this and maybe we won't here, and no one was holding a gun to your heads regarding the scope of the co-op or the number of players. I am not alone in backing this project because of this feature, so reneging on this commitment with an offhand comment in an update is not appreciated.
